THE OLIVE TREE AND CLIMATE CHANGE

I think everyone knows by now that one of the most important functions of plants is to absorb carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere and release oxygen (O₂). Due to respiration, a part of the CO₂ returns to the atmosphere while a part is stored in the various organic components, creating a carbon sink. The UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) defines carbon sinks literally as “wells” that absorb CO₂ removing it from the atmosphere. CO₂ is the most important greenhouse gas, the emission of which has increased drastically in the industrial age mainly due to the combustion of fossil fuels. …

Collaboration with Portugal has begun on the creation of a Garden of Peace.

IRAN
Iran asks for a Garden of Peace. A protocol of commitments is ready to be shared and a trip to Tehran in September is planned.

ANDREA BOCELLI FOUNDATION
Collaboration between The Garden of Peace and the Andrea Bocelli Foundation has begun. On 17 May meeting to define the details.

ENNA – SICILY
At the end of the month, meeting in Enna, Sicily, between The Garden of Peace and the local organisation to define the Garden of Peace project.
