Agrigento, January 11, 2025 – In the heart of the Valley of the Temples, next to the majestic Temple of Concordia, the Garden of Peace was inaugurated, an ambitious project that unites nature, history, and culture to promote brotherhood among peoples. The result of a collaboration between the Rotary Club of Agrigento, the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples, and the international association The Garden of Peace, this garden aims to become a place of dialogue, education, and hope for future generations.
A Project Born from International Collaboration
On March 21, 2025, with the signing of a partnership agreement, the three institutions committed to creating this unique space. On Saturday, January 11, during a symbolic ceremony, 21 olive trees were planted, each originating from a different country, including Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Iran, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Syria, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, and the USA. Each tree represents a message of peace and unity, rooted in the land that has seen the flourishing of one of the greatest civilizations of the Mediterranean.
Acknowledgments and Institutional Synergies
During the ceremony, the president of the Rotary Club of Agrigento, Alfonso Lo Zito, expressed gratitude to Michele Iacono, secretary general of the Free Municipal Consortium of Enna, for the support provided to the project. Special thanks were also given to agronomist Lillo Cumbo, who oversaw the technical realization of the garden.
