As part of the International Forum on the Future of the Mediterranean, held within the monumental setting of the Alhambra in Granada, representatives from 43 countries took part in a symbolic act of great cultural and diplomatic significance: the planting of olive trees that will form the Alhambra’s Garden of Peace.

The initiative, promoted by the international association The Garden of Peace, aims to leave a lasting mark of unity, cooperation, and dialogue among the cultures of the Mediterranean.

A shared symbol

Each olive tree planted represents its country’s commitment to peace, coexistence, and sustainable collaboration. A universal symbol of longevity, wisdom, and resilience, the olive tree becomes the emblem of this new space dedicated to reflection and collective memory.

The Garden was officially inaugurated by:
• Patricia del Pozo Fernández, Minister of Culture and Sport of the Regional Government of Andalusia
• Francina Lluc Armengol Socías, President of the Congress of Deputies of Spain

Both authorities praised the initiative launched by The Garden of Peace, highlighting the value of the association’s work in other iconic international sites, where it continues to sow peace through culture and landscape.

A forum with historical resonance

The forum’s official opening was led by His Majesty King Felipe VI, who, speaking from the Palace of Congresses of Granada, emphasized the “spirit of Granada” as a historic example of dialogue among peoples. The King reiterated the urgency of joining forces across the Mediterranean to tackle common challenges such as migration, climate change, youth employment, and gender equality.

Born in the heart of the Alhambra’s monumental complex, the Garden of Peace now stands as a living symbol of Mediterranean cooperation, rooted in one of Spain’s most evocative heritage sites. Through this project, The Garden of Peace reaffirms its mission to build lasting bonds between peoples through beauty, memory, and hope.
