CIHEAM MAI Chania

Where culture and science meet

CIHEAM is an intergovernmental organisation composed of four Mediterranean Agronomic Institutes (IAMs), located in Bari (Italy), Chania (Greece), Montpellier (France) and Zaragoza (Spain), and a General Secretariat based in Paris. CIHEAM was created at the joint initiative of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Council of Europe in 1962. On the occasion of its 60th anniversary in 2022, this organisation has asked The Garden of Peace association to create a garden of peace at its headquarters in Chania (Crete, Greece). Twenty-one varieties of olive trees were therefore sent to this Institute for the creation of the first international Garden of Peace. The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania pursues its three main complementary missions through:

– post-graduate specialised education
– networked research
– facilitation of regional debate

with focus in the fields of Business Economics and Management, Geoinformation in Environmental Management, Horticultural Genetics and Biotechnology, Food Quality and Chemistry of Natural Products, Sustainable Agriculture, and has established itself as an authority in Mediterranean agriculture, Food and Rural Development.
