A Solidarity Event in Bolzano
On 20 September 2024, an event sponsored by The Garden of Peace took place in Bolzano, Italy, with over 100 attendees. During this event, three organizations took the opportunity provided by The Garden of Peace to showcase their initiatives supporting disadvantaged communities.
Three Stories of Solidarity
The first organization, Amici del Malawi, based in Perugia, Italy, works tirelessly to improve living conditions in Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries. They have constructed a hospital that offers healthcare services in rural areas, focusing on combating diseases such as malaria and HIV. Their efforts extend to educational and community projects, such as building wells for clean drinking water and supporting schools for children.
The second organization, Emergency, is an international humanitarian group founded by Italian doctor Gino Strada. Their primary mission is to provide free, high-quality medical care to victims of war, landmines, and extreme poverty in conflict zones. They operate in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, and Sierra Leone, establishing hospitals and rehabilitation centers. A hallmark of Emergency is their commitment to neutrality, offering assistance to all injured individuals, irrespective of their affiliations. Additionally, they advocate for peace and defend human rights.
The third organization, Medici dell’Alto Adige per il mondo, is a volunteer association dedicated to sharing knowledge and experience among doctors, healthcare workers, and volunteers engaged in humanitarian work. Their projects focus on social solidarity and operate in regions including Africa, Central and South America, Syria, Afghanistan, Nepal, India, and even parts of Europe, such as Ukraine and Romania.
A Message of Peace and Solidarity Beyond Borders
The Garden of Peace offered this platform to highlight these organizations and their impactful work, seeking to garner support for their noble causes. Like us, they are non-profit organizations that rely on the support of individuals from all walks of life, united by a shared message of peace, tolerance, and coexistence, which we aim to promote worldwide.
Originally conceived to celebrate an Italian region, the event surpassed all expectations, drawing an international attendance that included not only various Italian regions (Sicily, Puglia, etc.), but also countries such as Spain, Austria, and Paraguay.
