February 27, 2025
By Francesco Serafini, President The Garden of Peace
Dear readers,
We are delighted to share with you a significant step forward in the “Garden of Peace” project, an initiative that brings together nature, history, and universal values of harmony and dialogue.
Recently, a highly important meeting was held at the Rectorate of the University of Córdoba, attended by distinguished representatives from the academic and institutional world. Among those present were the Rector of the University of Córdoba, Mr. Manuel Torralbo Rodríguez; the Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy, Ms. María José Polo Gómez; the Head of the Parks and Gardens Department of the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, Mr. Carlos Ávila Cano; the President of the Monumental Olive Trees of Andalusia Association, Mr. Manuel Lucena Sánchez; and the President of The Garden of Peace (TGoP) Association, Mr. Francesco Serafini.
A project of cooperation and culture
The main objective of the meeting was to present the project to the University of Córdoba so that it, as the custodian of the World Olive Germplasm Bank, could donate the 21 olive varieties that will bring the “Garden of Peace” to life at the monumental complex of the Alhambra in Granada. This action represents not only a gesture of valorization of botanical and landscape heritage but also a symbol of peace and international cooperation.
The support of the University of Córdoba
Rector Torralbo Rodríguez and Vice-Rector Polo Gómez welcomed the project with enthusiasm, expressing their full support. Thanks to this agreement, the precious olive varieties will soon be transported from Córdoba to Granada, allowing for the imminent inauguration of the garden. A significant milestone that marks another step in the realization of a global network of gardens dedicated to peace.
New perspectives for Córdoba
But the good news doesn’t end there. During the meeting, the Rector expressed the desire to create a Garden of Peace in Córdoba, located in an equally emblematic site, An initiative that would allow the city to officially join the international network of peace gardens promoted by the TGoP Association, strengthening the bond between culture, nature, and peaceful coexistence.
Towards a future of harmony and beauty
The “Garden of Peace” project represents a powerful and universal message: nature can be a bridge between different peoples and cultures, a space for reflection and hope for a more harmonious world. Stay tuned for further updates on this wonderful initiative that unites history, science, and shared values.
